A detailed, high-quality Viking fibula dated to the early 900s. Crafted from silver plated bronze, it is based on a find from Kilkenny in Ireland where Vikings visited frequently. These large brooches were used to fasten cloaks, furs and other heavy garments. Silver plating larger bronze jewelry was a common practice during the Viking Age.
